FC United of Manchester lose star man

FC United of Manchester forward Regan Linney has joined Altrincham for an undisclosed fee.

After an impressive 18 months, Linney has been offered the chance of full-time football and will now link up with the National League side.

During his time at Broadhurst Park, he netted 61 goals in 133 appearances.

Linney caught the attention of many clubs during the previous calendar year when he scored 38 goals and assisted 22 more.

He leaves as this season’s top scorer in the Northern Premier League with 20 goals - four more than anyone else in the division.

On his departure, FC United boss Neil Reynolds said: "Regan has been an amazing servant for the club and will be hugely missed, not only on the pitch but also off it, where we have seen him grow over the last three and a half years into a mature individual, and a leader."

FC United of Manchester are next in action away at Matlock Town on Saturday.

Three points could take them into the play-off places, depending on the outcome of the day’s other matches.
