Five NPL clubs in the hat for FA Cup first round draw

By James Gordon

Five Northern Premier League clubs will have an interest in the FA Cup first round draw on Sunday afternoon.

The draw will be shown live on ITV on Sunday afternoon at 1pm.

The five clubs include Marine, whose love affair with the FA Cup continued with a 1-1 draw against Wrexham in front of 1,914 at the Marine Travel Arena.

And it could have been even better - Jordan Davies’ last gasp equaliser secured the Welshmen a replay on Tuesday night to halt, temporarily hopefully, Marine from achieving the first round proper for a second successive season.

Pontefract Collieries welcomed a huge 1,429 crowd and held FC Halifax Town, who sit third in the National League - three divisions above the NPL East Division.

Marske United, who dumped Chester out in the previous round, secured a replay against another National League North opponent, Gateshead, after holding them to a goalless draw.

Diego de Girolamo scored a dramatic late equaliser for Buxton to help them come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 away Kettering Town to maintain their unbeaten start to the season in all competitions.

And Morpeth Town will host York City in a replay on Tuesday after Ben Sayer’s equaliser earned them a 1-1 draw in front of 2,258 at the LNER Community Stadium.

Of the six NPL clubs left in the competition at the start of the weekend, only Stamford failed to make it through to the draw.

They put up a plucky fight in going down 3-0 away at Stockport County, who sit three divisions above them in the pyramid.
