Hot-shot is ready for return

By David Watters

Hot-shot Ryan Robbins is hoping to pick up where he left off at Stamford next season after rejoining the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Daniels.

The St Kitts and Nevis striker, pictured, is returning to Zeeco Arena for a second spell after leaving to play in National League North last season with Boston United following the brief appointment of Andrew Wilson.

The 28-year-old former Friar Lane & Epworth, Barwell, King's Lynn Town and Coalville Town forward first signed for the Daniels in August 2013 before going on to top score for the club over two seasons.

Daniels boss Graham Drury has told the club's fans that he is delighted to have The Sugar Boyz international in his squad for the 2016-17 EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division campaign following the club's FA reprieve from relegation in May.

Drury told the Stamford & Rutland News: “Ryan is somebody I have wanted to work with for a long time. He is talented, has pace to burn and has an eye for goal.

“We have had some very good conversations. He knows what I expect of him and him of me. If we get Ryan fully focussed and fit, he will be pretty formidable, particularly if he can get into shape early on.

"He can’t run at full pelt for 90 minutes. He can’t track back all game but if he defends his zones and doesn’t allow the full-back space he will be able to have respites in games. It is a really big signing for us and I am over the moon to be working with him.”

Drury has also bagged another impressive signing with Elliot Sandy joining from AFC Rushden & Diamonds. The experienced player, who enjoyed a long spell at Brackley as well as playing for Kettering Town, can play in a number of positions.

Drury added: “Elliot is a really big signing for us. He can dictate games. He can play as a centre forward, in the number 10 role or even as a holding midfielder dictating play. He can drive a team forward and adds experience in midfield.

"With Sam Hill, Curtis Hartley, Joe Elliott and Sam Murphy all under 23 we need that experience in there. Along with Jon Challinor, Elliot gives us that mix. He is a great lad - a big character in the changing room and one I am delighted to be working with.”

* Stamford have agreed a pre-season friendly with Championship giants Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Zeeco Stadium on Wednesday 3 August. Kick-off 7.30pm.
