Hughes makes Stalybridge return

Stalybridge Celtic have announced the signing of Connor Hughes from Witton Albion.

The 31-year-old forward was most recently plying his trade at Witton Albion, where he finished the season as their top goalscorer with 15 goals.

The former Oldham Athletic striker returns to the Celtic for his second spell at the club after featuring in the 2017/18 season, where he accumulated five goals and 19 assists in 31 appearances.

On linking back up with Stalybridge, Hughes said: "I’m delighted to sign for this football Club.

"I was here a few years ago and loved every minute, so I’m buzzing to be back.

"From speaking to the manager, they have some big plans and are a Club on the up, so I’m looking forward to getting going, scoring goals and seeing where it takes us."

Manager James Kinsey says he was keen to add Hughes' attacking firepower to his side for next season.

"Connor is a player that we’ve known for a while now. He is the type of character we need around the changing room," the Stalybridge boss said.

"He has the ability to play in a number of positions, but in recent years there has been one thing associated with him - he scores goals.

"It’s no secret we didn’t have enough goals from around the pitch last season and it’s important we address that.

"He has been really keen to come and we’re excited to see him back at the club."
