Hull City goalkeeper answers Gainsborough SOS

Gainsborough Trinity brought in Hull City goalkeeper David Robson on a one-month loan deal.

Robson, 22, returns to the Holy Blues for a second spell after initially joining the club on loan in 2019, where he made two appearances.

He makes the move back to Gainsborough after answering manager Russ Wilcox's call for help following the concussion sustained by Dylan Wharton in their 3-0 win against Basford United.

The young shot-stopper featured in last weekend's 4-1 victory away at Warrington Rylands.

The Wales U17s and U21s international began his career in Canada with Oakville SC, before joining Scottish Premiership side Hearts' Academy.

In 2017 he joined Hull City, signing a professional contract with the Tigers in 2019. He made his professional debut in August 2022 in a 2-1 defeat to Bradford City in the EFL Cup.

During his time at Hull, he has enjoyed loan spells at East Yorkshire Carnegie, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Tadcaster Albion, Farsley Celtic, Crawley Town and Darlington.

On making his second debut for the club, Robson said: "It’s not the most usual of circumstances, meeting everyone like that, but I just had to crack on with it.

"The lads were good with me and it helped knowing a couple of the lads, having played at Farsley previously.”

"You just have to be ready and mentally sharp so that when those moments or situations happen, you are in the best place physically and mentally to deal with them and hope that you come out on top in that moment."

Manager Russ Wilcox added: "I have worked with David before, he played the last seven games of the season a couple of seasons ago [at Farsley Celtic].

"And he was instrumental in us staying up that season. We have kept in touch since then. I know all about his attributes - and I was delighted to be able to bring him into the group.

"He's a goalkeeper who should be playing higher. He's got game time in Sky Bet League Two with Crawley Town & also played for Darlington earlier this season.

"He had an outstanding debut, making a couple of key saves at key moments, while it was 0-0 and on top of that he swept up really well.

"Considering he didn't know his team mates before Saturday morning, he certainly went about finding everything out - asking names, asking questions, learning as much as he could in a short period."
