James Clifton departs Basford United

Basford United have confirmed that James Clifton has left the club to join Corby Town.

The 30-year-old defender moves back to the NPL Division One side, having arrived from Steel Park in May 2020 and has previously played for Nuneaton Borough, Boston United and Alfreton Town.

Northampton-born, he made ten appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once, and will link up with United loanees Niall Towle and James Tague under manager Gary Mills.

Boss Steve Chettle said: “James left due to work commitments and travelling.

“At present, he hasn’t been playing and I had that discussion with him last week where, if it helped for him to find a club closer to home, then we’d be happy to let him do so.

“I’ve known ‘Cliffy’ for a long time and would like to wish him all the best and thank him for all his efforts and time whilst at Basford.”
