Lancaster captain makes Clitheroe move

Clitheroe have announced the signings of defender Andrew Teague from Lancaster City and Jack Massey on a loan deal from Accrington Stanley.

Teague, 37, signed for his second spell with Dolly Blues in 2021 after initially joining the club in 2009, and has made 71 appearances since returning.

A veteran defender, he made 390 appearances for Chorley between 2011 and 2020 where he became their club captain.

Following Mark Fell’s departure in November, Teague took up the interim manager role at Lancaster City alongside fellow centre-back Simon Grand.

A statement from a Lancaster City spokesperson said: “It is with a mix of emotions that we announce the departure of our esteemed captain, Andrew Teague, from Lancaster City Football Club.

“Andrew has been an exemplary figure at our club for many years, not only as a formidable captain on the pitch but also, more recently, as a successful caretaker manager.

“While we expressed our desire for him to continue contributing - whether as a player or in a coaching capacity - Andrew has decided to pursue a new challenge in his playing career.

“Throughout his time at the club, Andrew has demonstrated unwavering professionalism and remarkable leadership. His dedication, both on and off the field, has left an indelible mark on our club. We cannot commend him enough for his outstanding contributions as a player, a manager, and an ambassador for Lancaster City Football Club.

“Andrew will forever hold a special place in the hearts of everyone associated with the club and while we are saddened by his departure, we respect his decision and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

Joining him at Shawbridge is striker Jack Massey, who has agreed a short-term loan deal from Accrington Stanley.

The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract with the Reds in July after enjoying a successful year in their youth setup where he scored 11 times in 22 appearances.

Massey will look to develop further at Clitheroe following recent loan spells at Stafford Rangers and Widnes.
