Lawson names his new number two

Former Marine striker Ian Johnson has returned to the EVO-STIK League top flight club as Tommy Lawson's new number two.

Johnson, Simon Haworth's assistant manager at Clitheroe before the pair's departure from Shawbridge at the end of April after two years with the EVO-STIK League North's Blues, was appointed by Lawson, pictured, on Friday ahead of the Premier Division club's end of season awards night at the Marine Travel Arena.

The successor to former Prescot Cables boss Tony Sullivan as Lawson's assistant, Waterloo-based Johnson, 35, is well known around the North West Non-League scene having played up front for Wigan Athletic, Southport, AFC Liverpool, Burscough and the Mariners under legendary long-serving boss Roly Howard back in season 2003-04.
