Managerial exodus at AFC Rushden & Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds have announced the departure of manager Chris Nunn and his coaching team.

Nunn took charge of the club 10 months ago following the exit of Richard Maxwell.

The former Biggleswade Town and Kempston Rovers manager leaves Hayden Road by mutual consent, alongside his coaching staff consisting of Matty Vernon, Jordan Williams and Mick Hunter.

Michael Harriman and Tom Lorraine, both first team players, will take the role of interim managers until the club appoints a new head coach, with their first fixture in charge coming this Saturday at home to Coleshill Town.

With the Diamonds sitting at the bottom of the NPL Midlands table after failing to record a single point so far this season, chairman Rob Usher believes it was time for a change at the club.

In a statement, Usher said: “Chris came in to the Club at an extremely difficult time and spent a lot of time early on making brave, difficult calls that ultimately helped carve a path for us to get the Club back on the straight and narrow after a challenging period on and off the pitch.

“Whilst the history books won’t necessarily remember his tenure with us fondly purely from a results perspective, his contribution to the Club from top to bottom inclusive of his work helping us reignite a strong relationship with the club’s junior section should be remembered fondly.

“We are sorry to see Chris go but ultimately, both parties felt that this was in the best interests of AFC Rushden & Diamonds at this point in time and as such, we move on.

“As a board we have been through this process before and with the benefit of hindsight, the previous process to recruit a manager took too long.

“Tom Lorraine and Michael Harriman have agreed to take the team for an interim period, with the hope that we can secure a new permanent successor within the next fortnight.

“We will now begin the process of reaching out to identified options, whilst welcoming applications from elsewhere. We will keep Supporters updated as much as possible.”

The club have asked that applications from interested parties for the managerial position to be directed to secretary@afc-diamonds.com before the deadline on Tuesday 17th October.
