Marrow resigns from Steels post

Stocksbridge Park Steels club statement.

It is with regret that Stocksbridge Park Steels announce Gary Marrow has resigned as first team manager with immediate effect.

The club with reluctance has accepted the decision, understanding that this has not been easily reached as Gary explained, “Having had time to think following the performance at Matlock on Tuesday evening and following a discussion with the Chairman on Wednesday lunchtime we feel that in the best interest of the club, I have decided to resign my position as Manager with immediate effect.

"This decision isn’t a knee jerk reaction I have been contemplating what’s best for myself, my family and the club, over recent weeks and on refection I feel stepping down will give the club the best opportunity to remain in the EvoStik Premier Division whist allowing me to take a step back from the time consuming tasks of football management and relax with my family.

"It was my intention to step down at the end of this current season and ‘retire’ from football management, however my ‘retirement’ has come a little earlier than anticipated! Hopefully, whoever takes over the role will be able to revitalise the team, restore the confidence and get them back to winning ways.

Stocksbridge Park Steels are a great club to work for and I sincerely hope that whoever takes over the role of manager enjoys their time there as much as I have. I’m immensely proud of the clubs achievements during my time, gaining promotion to the Premier Division and winning two Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup titles.

"It’s been a privileged to manage the players who have played for me and to see a youngster like Jamie Vardy progress from Stocksbridge into the Blue Square Conference National league with Fleetwood Town.

I’ve made some very good friends since joining the club and fully intend to take in a few of their games once the dust has settled and the new manager has settled in”.

Chairman Allen Bethel added “Over the past few years Gary has worked tirelessly for the club, rebuilding the side and gaining promotion to the EvoStik NPL on a 'shoe string' budget. His passion for the game and Stocksbridge Park Steels will be sadly missed, everyone at the club will wish him well and thank him for his considerable efforts.

Assistant Manager Gary Ingham is also leaving the Steels. Gary has had a lengthy association with the club, first as a player signed by Mick Horne after an injury to Andy Carney. He returned as first choice keeper when Gary Marrow was appointed manager and shortly after that became Assistant manager. Once again his efforts at the club are very much appreciated.

We look forward to seeing both of them in the future, they will be made very welcome at the Look Local Stadium.

Reserve team manager Steve Shutt and coach Darren Schofield will take temporary charge of First Team affairs.
