Nantwich Town confirm departure of key duo

Sean Cooke and Caspar Hughes have left Nantwich Town, the club have confirmed.

Cooke has scored eight goals in 23 appearances for the Dabbers since his return in March.

In total, he has made over 350 appearances for the club and moved up to third in the club's list of all-time goalscorers.

It has since been revealed that Sean will link up with his father, Dave, at Stafford Rangers.

Hughes, meanwhile, made 249 appearances for the Dabbers, scoring 10 goals.

He returned to the club in 2017. Since then, he became just the third-ever player to captain the club in the first round proper of the FA Cup.

Hughes' next destination has not yet been confirmed.

Discussing their exit, Nantwich boss Paul Carden said: “Since Sean came back, he’s been different class for us. Last season, he really got the lads going and scored some important goals.

"This season, he’s missed a fair bit through injuries but he’s still played a big part, none more so than a couple of weeks ago against City of Liverpool, scoring a big hat-trick and doing the things we know he can do.

"He goes with our best wishes because he’s such a good lad and a good player.

"When I came into the club, Caspar was the first person I called. I’d tried to sign both him and Sean at Warrington, but they were so committed to the club that they were never going to leave at that time.

"I stated how important Caspar was to me and how much I rated him, but unfortunately he just couldn’t get past the injuries.

"His last game for us was Shifnal away, but what a game he had that night. I’ve been gutted not to see more of him."
