New midfield maestro for Radcliffe

Northern Premier League leaders Radcliffe have announced the signing of former Chorley midfielder Willem Tomlinson.

The 25-year-old joins the club following his departure from the National League North outfit.

He began in the youth ranks at Blackburn Rovers after signing for the club in 2009 at the age of 10.

Tomlinson eventually making his senior debut for the one-time Premier League champions in the fifth round of the FA Cup against Manchester United, coming on as a second-half substitute and facing the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.

He achieved promotion to the Championship with Rovers in 2017/18, making a number of appearances in England’s second division before joining Mansfield Town.

After spending a season with the Nottinghamshire club, a three-year spell at Chorley followed.

He went on to enjoy a three-month stint at fellow Northern Premier League side Marine earlier this season, scoring twice in 16 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Tomlinson goes straight into contention ahead of Tuesday night's trip to Morpeth Town. With second-placed Warrington Rylands without a fixture, a win would see the Boro move 10 points clear at the top of the division.
