Premier Division preview: Leaders on the road, tough test for winless Whitby

By James Gordon

Surprise early-season pace-setters Marske United will visit fellow newly-promoted outfit Marine in the latest round of Northern Premier League fixtures on Saturday.

With all sides in action twice across the Bank Holiday weekend, squad depth and rotation will be key for all of the division’s 22 sides.

Marske will visit Rossett Park to take on a Marine side looking to bounce back following their first defeat of the season at Stafford Rangers in midweek.

Second-placed Stafford are also on their travels to Whitby Town, who remain rooted to the foot of the table after a run of fourth successive losses to start the new campaign.

Meanwhile, Guiseley will look to stretch their winning run to four matches when they take on Stalybridge Celtic at Bower Fold, and Hyde United travel to Morpeth Town as they look to maintain their unbeaten start.

Ashton United and Warrington Town, both currently in the top half of the division, will do battle at Hurst Cross, while FC United of Manchester will look to extend their recent unbeaten run away at Bamber Bridge.

Speaking ahead of the clash, FC United’s Andy Halls said: “I think we’ve done well over the last week or so, so it’s about building that momentum and trying to build on the foundations of keeping clean sheets.

“I think that our quality will always shine through towards the end of games.”

Elsewhere in the division, Gainsborough Trinity will welcome Lancaster City to Northolme, South Shields visit winless Nantwich Town and Radcliffe host a Liversedge side beaten heavily in midweek at home to Morpeth.

Atherton Collieries will also look to pick up their first point at the Skuna Stadium in 2022/23 when Matlock Town make the trip to Greater Manchester.

And finally, Belper Town and Warrington Rylands - two of the sides currently in the bottom six - will do battle for a precious three points at Christchurch Meadow.
