Premier Division preview: Two big games in play-off race as South Shields visit Yorkshire Coast

By James Gordon

South Shields will look to extend their lead at the top of the Northern Premier League this weekend as they visit Marske United.

The fixture will be manager Carl Jarrett’s first at home since returning to the club for a third spell last week following the departure of Curtis Woodhouse.

It will be no easy task against a Mariners side currently nine points clear at the top of the table, having won six and drawn two of their last eight league fixtures.

There are two other big games with ramifications for the play-off race.

Third and fifth will do battle as Warrington Town welcome Bamber Bridge to Cantilever Park.

A 2-2 draw against Whitby Town in midweek saw the Yellows extend their current unbeaten run to a club record 15 matches, while the Brig will be hoping to record a third straight win after coming from behind to beat Liversedge 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Guiseley and Gainsborough Trinity - two of the sides on the fringes of the play-offs - will meet at Nethermoor.

Trinity are four points adrift of the top five with Saturday’s visitors three points further back, and neither side will want to drop point as the business end of the season approaches.

And at Nantwich Town, there will be a new era as recently-appointed Dabbers boss Paul Carden takes charge for the first time as they welcome second-placed Hyde United to the Weaver Stadium.

All fixtures will take place on Saturday 4 March at 3pm, unless stated otherwise.
