Premier Division round-up: Stafford out in front, mixed fortunes for Warrington sides

Stafford Rangers moved three points clear at the top of the Pitching In Northern Premier League after winning 1-0 away at Whitby Town.

Ethan Stewart’s first half strike proved to be the difference at the Turnbull Ground as Whitby endured their fifth straight defeat of the season.

Surprise packages Marske United led the way heading into the weekend’s action, but they were downed 1-0 at Marine, courtesy of Rob Guilfoyle’s 19th-minute own-goal.

At Hurst Cross, Ashton United ended Warrington’s Town’s unbeaten start to the new campaign with a 2-1 victory.

Callum Saunders and Sam Sheridan scored in either half before Luke Duffy scored a late consolation for the Yellows.

There were far better fortunes for the division's other Warrington side, however, as Rylands sealed an emphatic 5-0 win away at Belper Town.

Kane Drummond and Ryan Brooke both scored twice, the latter netting his first goals for the club. Callum Dolan also got himself on the scoresheet in the first half.

Morpeth Town were comprehensive 3-0 winners at home to Hyde United, thanks to goals from Ben Sayer, Michael Turner and Jack Foalle, while South Shields secured their first win since the opening weekend as Michael Woods’ first half effort sealed all three points away at Nantwich Town.

Radcliffe sit ninth in the table after late goals from Jake Thompson and Luca Navarro sealed a 2-0 victory at home to Liversedge, who had Kurt Harris shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident 10 minutes after half-time.

Elsewhere in the division, Regan Linney’s fourth goal of the season wasn’t enough for FC United of Manchester as Bamber Bridge came from behind to win 2-1, while Alex Wiles’ first half effort helped Matlock Town pick up their second victory of the season away at Atherton Collieries.

Goals from Dominic Lawson and Dale Whitham saw Lancaster City earn their first win of the season at Gainsborough Trinity, and Bower Fold played host to a goalless draw between Stalybridge Celtic and fourth-placed Guiseley.
