Premier Division round-up: Stalybridge Celtic relegated & Liversedge go down fighting

By James Gordon

Liversedge and Stalybridge Celtic were both relegated from the NPL Premier Division on Tuesday night.

Sedge’s relegation was confirmed despite recording a 2-1 victory at 10-man Ashton United. After goalkeeper Andre Da Silva Mendes was sent off for a professional foul, they were able to go 2-0 up before half-time. Nathan Cartman and Jack Carr scored the goals.

Lewis Thompson pulled one back for the 10 men, but they fell to defeat.

Despite getting the three points, it wasn’t enough to preserve Liversedge’s Premier Division status.

That was because Marske United claimed a 4-2 victory over Stalybridge Celtic- a result that confirmed the Celts’ relegation to Step 4.

Adam Boyes scored a hat-trick, with Junior Mondal also on the scoresheet. Ethan Padden and Djavan Pedro scored for Stalybridge, but it wasn’t enough for them.

The Seasiders could confirm their Premier Division status on Thursday if they are able to beat Nantwich Town. The Dabbers need to win, otherwise they will also be relegated to Step 4.

Results - 18 April

Ashton United 1-2 Liversedge
Marske United 4-2 Stalybridge Celtic
