The Seasiders took the lead 35 minutes in thanks to Jacob Hazel’s cross-come-shot which found the top corner.
Whitby’s lead was doubled 12 minutes after the break following an own goal by Thomas Unwin; however Whitby pressed their advantage and Hazel managed to secure a brace four minutes later.
Following Warrington Town’s 2-0 defeat to Scarborough Athletic, Whitby leap over The Yellows into a play-off spot.
Elsewhere in the division, first placed Buxton town suffered their second defeat of the season at home to FC United of Manchester, who came back from 1-0 down to win the game 2-1, moving them into eigth place.
Third placed Bamber Bridge missed out on a chance to move into second following a 2-0 defeat to Gainsborough Trinity, who themselves have extended the gap between them and a relegation spot by three points.
Mickleover remained in 20th place after losing 3-0 away to Ashton United who also pulled three points clear from the bottom.
Basford United’s 2-0 victory at home to Atherton Collieries means that they end their winless streak, moving them into 10th place.
