Premier Division round-up: Wins for Hyde and Stalybridge

By James Gordon

Hyde United climbed to the top of the Northern Premier League on Saturday thanks to a battling 1-0 win at home to Stafford Rangers.

Freezing temperatures on Friday night heading into Saturday meant only two of the days fixtures were able to overcome the elements.

At the Project Solar Stadium, it was Hyde who extended their unbeaten run to five matches in the league.

Edy Maieco scored the winner, making an instant impact three minutes after coming off the bench.

The Tigers now top the division on goal difference, although nearest challengers South Shields have four games in hand over them.

In the day’s other fixture, Stalybridge Celtic ran out convincing 4-0 winners away at Nantwich Town.

The Celts continued their recent good run of form, with Djavan Pedro scoring on debut following his loan move from Salford City.

Further goals came in the second half courtesy of Chris Dagnall, Theo Bailey-Jones and Kyle Harrison.
