Rayment, pictured, left the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Fields by mutual consent on Wednesday after admitting he'd taken the First Division South club as far as he could since succeeding Andy Stanhope in 2012.
The former Peterborough United star, who briefly resigned last season before being persuaded to stay on, will be remembered as one of the most successful managers in the club's history after collecting two trophies during his tenure and winning promotion back in the EVO-STIK NPL as United Counties champions. Along the way to winning 32 of their 36 fixtures, Rayment guided his side to 17 successive victories to set a new league record for consecutive wins.
In a statement on the club's website naming assistant manager Marcus Ebdon and coach Danny Hussey as their caretaking team for Saturday's visit of Newcastle Town, officials said the former Deeping Rangers manager was looking for a fresh challenge after deciding to end speculation about his future following three successive defeats.
Spalding United chairman Andrew Gay said: “Following a constructive meeting on Tuesday 3 November, Spalding United and manager Pat Rayment have parted company by mutual agreement. There is no animosity between the club and Pat and we thank him most sincerely for everything he has done since he joined us in January 2012.
"We will keep everyone informed on the direction we as a club now take, but at this stage assistant manager Marcus Ebdon and coach Danny Hussey will be in charge of the team on Saturday for the league game against Newcastle Town.”
