Stalybridge Celtic defender earns international call-up

Stalybridge Celtic have announced that defender Scott Wara has been called up by the Fiji national team.

He has linked up with the Bula Boys ahead of their fixtures against the Solomon Islands, Tahiti and New Caledonia, before returning to Bower Fold later this month.

Wara first joined Celtic in September 2023 after a brief spell with Irish side Finn Harps, where he made nine appearances.

He spent the previous two seasons with Leek Town and played a major role in the third and second-placed finishes achieved during his time with the Blues.

Wara has featured 17 times this season for Stalybridge, who find themselves six points off the Pitching In NPL West Division play-offs with nine games of the season left to play.

Born in Fiji, Wara moved to Staffordshire as a child and began his footballing career with Stoke City.

He played across various age grades then subsequently left the Potters to join Leek - first on loan, before making a permanent move to the club in 2021.

He made his international debut in September 2018, appearing in a 1-1 draw against the Solomon Islands.
