Stalybridge land Dolly Blues full-back

Stalybridge Celtic have announced the signing of defender Kyle Brownhill from Northern Premier League side Lancaster City.

Brownhill has impressed for the Dolly Blues over the last two years and enjoyed a major role in their top-half finish last season by playing more minutes than any of his team-mates.

In total, he made just shy of 100 appearances for the club, having first joined in 2022.

Prior to his time at the Giant Axe, the versatile defender featured for Stockport County, Altrincham and Ramsbottom United, while also making 169 appearances during a nine-year stint at Hyde United.

The 29-year-old has now made the move to the NPL West Division, joining a Stalybridge side that have already made some eye-catching moves into the transfer market as they look to improve upon a 12th-placed finish last term.

Witton Albion's Connor Hughes and Guiseley captain Liam Tongue are among the players to have already signed ahead of the 2024/25 season.

“I am happy to be signing for Stalybridge Celtic. It’s a club I’ve had many battles with over my time in non-league," Brownhill said following the move.

"I know it’s been a tough few years as a club, on and off the pitch, but now with the plans going forward, it’s something for everyone to look forward to.

"I can’t wait to meet up with the lads and get going with putting the club back to the position it belongs."

Stalybridge boss James Kinsey added: “Kyle is an athlete and has played at a higher level for a number of years.

"He has a hunger about him to be successful and was really keen to join us. Last season he played over 40 games in a side that did really well in the league above.

“He’s everything that we want from a full-back, and we’re made up that he’s decided to come and play his football here.”
