Talented goalkeeper extends Stalybridge stay

Stalybridge Celtic have announced that on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Luke Hewitson will remain at the club until the end of the season.

Hewitson, 19, has already made 28 appearances for Celtic this season, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.

His initial deal was due to expire this month, but it has now been decided that the young shot-stopper will continue to gain first team minutes at Bower Fold.

Hewitson's performances have helped Stalybridge to fourth in the Pitching In NPL West Division as they look to return to the Northern Premier League at the first attempt following their relegation in 2022/23.

“I’m delighted to have extended my loan until the end of the season," he said.

"It was a no-brainer given the quality of the players we have in the squad, and we’re ready to go on a charge with the last 14 or so games.

"I hope to be able to contribute to the success of getting this club back where it belongs.”

Celtic boss James Kinsey added: “Luke has been brilliant since coming in. There’s areas of his game that are there to be worked on, but he is always fully involved in the group.

“His application is brilliant, and some of the saves he has made this year have made a real difference.

“We’re delighted to have him with us for the rest of the season.”
