Tooth turns to Taylor

Sutton Coldfield Town manager Neil Tooth has appointed Daryl Taylor as his new assistant manager.

In choosing Taylor, pictured, Tooth opted to promote from within at the First Division South's Royals following the exit of his former assistant manager Ross Thorpe last week.

Tooth said: "I'm delighted DT has decided to take on the role of my assistant. I was shocked by the calibre of people who applied and there was a few stand out CVs that dropped in my lap.

"But I said all along that I have a really good team around me and I'd be more than happy to give one of them a go should they want it. DT is someone who the lads respect and having played as a pro for most of his career his experience will be invaluable.

Taylor, 28, played a key role in last season's campaign. The former Bury and Walsall midfielder admits he was surprised to get the call but is looking forward to the challenge.

He said: "It's a something I'm looking forward to and I'm eager to get started and learn as much as I can. I was shocked when Toothy asked me but absolutely delighted to be given the chance as I feel at home here and I'm looking forward to the added responsibility that comes with the job.

"Although I have no management experience I hope I can put into place some ideas I've picked up over my playing career. The transition will hopefully be an easy one as I know the club, fans and committee and it won't be too much of a change for the players."
