Trio head out on loan from Basford United

Basford United have confirmed three loan departures ahead of their 2021-22 campaign, due to start on Saturday against Scarborough Athletic.

Kieran Preston, Jordan Haywood and James Tague will all spend time away from Greenwich Avenue as they look for valuable playing time following discussions with manager Steve Chettle.

Goalkeeper Preston has joined Carlton Town, after a transfer agreement between the two clubs was made following midfielder Ollie Clark’s move the other way back in January.

James Tague will spend the first half of the season at Corby Town and featured for his new side against United in their 3-0 defeat last month.

The midfielder, 20, spent the part of last season at Steel Park before the curtailment of the season and his situation will be reviewed by both clubs after the Christmas period.

Young full-back Haywood has signed with Newark FC on a dual-registration scheme that will allow him to continue his senior development, with the option of being recalled by United at any time.

On the moves, Chettle said: “Kieran and I had a discussion at the start of pre-season as he wanted to be playing every week during the season ahead.

“Kieran is one of three top goalkeepers that we have at United alongside Jordan Pierrepont, who played last season when Kieran was available, and having signed Adam Collin from
Kettering recently.

“We have a close working relationship with Tommy Brookbanks and Mark Harvey at Carlton Town, and they asked about Kieran's availability. After speaking to all parties, we agreed to loan Kieran to Carlton to play regularly and help them in their season.

“It is important that all players, especially goalkeepers, keep playing and gain valuable game time and match sharpness. Our staff will continue to work with Kieran in the week alongside the other ‘keepers here and we will be watching him regularly during his time at Carlton.

“James has found it hard to break into our very competitive midfield and has re-joined Gary Mills at Corby Town until the New Year, where he will hopefully gain valuable fitness and regular game time - his situation will be reviewed after Christmas.

“He played at Corby Town before the curtailment of last season and had played a number of games in succession, which is important for players that haven’t had much game time with us.

“Newark contacted me before their season started and asked if we had any young players that could cope with senior football,” Chettle added.

“Jordan is one of a number of our exciting academy group that has been involved with the first team during the whole of pre-season and played a lot of minutes against some tough opposition.

“He will be on a dual registration with Newark, and we can recall him if needs be.

“With Newark now ground sharing at our Greenwich Avenue home, we have already seen Jordan perform really well in his debut against Eastwood Community and, like Kieran, we will continue to monitor him during his time there.”
