Two new arrivals at Atherton Collieries

Atherton Collieries have brought in experienced former Nantwich Town defender Mo Ali and goalkeeper Joe O’Shaughnessy.

A versatile defender who can play either centre-back or in defensive midfield, Ali joins from Nantwich Town, where he has been a regular in the squad this season as the club embarked on a noteworthy FA Trophy campaign.

The 27-year old is a product of the highly-rated Alphense Boys academy in the Netherlands, from whom he earned a move to ADO Den Haag where he would play alongside current Manchester City defender Nathan Ake.

He moved to Manchester in 2013 and has earned his status in non-league ever since, most notably impressing during spells at Curzon Ashton and Warrington Town, alongside stints at Mossley, Droylsden and Northwich.

Mo also adds further international pedigree to the Colls squad, with eight international caps for Somalia to his name.

Shot-stopper O'Shaughnessy, meanwhile, joins having come through the Burnley youth ranks before earning a move to Wolves.

A loan move to Bradford City followed for the 21-year-old, before signing for Macclesfield last season.

The imposing 6’6 stopper has spent the 2023/24 campaign with Pitching In NPL West Division leaders Leek Town.

As two new faces arrive, Colls have also said goodbye to defender Jordan Fagbola, who has departed the club to join Trafford.

Fagbola made 19 appearances for the club following his arrival in the summer.
