Benn, 43, recently resigned from his role at Hemsworth Miners Welfare and will take up his new role in the BetVictor North West Division.
As a player, Benn started his career at Bradford City before dropping into Non-League where he played made more than 400 appearances for Bradford Park Avenue.
He will watch Ossett's clash with City of Liverpool before taking charge on Thursday.
"At this time I am delighted to get the opportunity to manager Ossett United," Benn said.
"A club who I have followed closely since their merger. Recognising the squad in relation the current league position I am confident that if we look ahead rather than over our shoulder we can all achieve better times. I am very keen to put a smile on the fans of the club who clearly give it tremendous support.” Benn brings with him, experienced assistant manager, Andy Hayward who has supported him for a number of campaigns.
