FC United complete signing of new goalkeeper

FC United of Manchester have announced the signing of Dan Atherton ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Atherton, 25, makes the move to Broadhurst Park after departing Warrington Town two weeks ago.

The former Liverpool shot-stopper made 145 appearances for the Yellows across two spells, featuring in both the Northern Premier League and National League North.

He famusly scored two stoppage-time goals for the club during their debut campaign at Step 2 in 2023/24.

Despite an offer being made to keep Atherton at the Cal.Delivery Stadium for the upcoming season, the 'keeper opted to rekindle his relationship with former Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley, after a transfer fee of £7,500 was accepted by the Yellows.

News of Atherton's signing comes just days after former Premier League striker Adam Le Fondre agreed a new deal with the Reds, keeping him at Broadhurst Park until the end of next season.
