Hyde United appoint new manager

Hyde United have appointed Martin Coyne as their new manager on a permanent basis.

Coyne was placed in charge of the Tigers on an interim basis following the resignation of Nick Spooner last month after three-and-a-half years in charge.

Since taking charge, Coyne has overseen three wins from five games and led the club to the FA Cup fourth qualifying round, where they will face National League Tamworth for a place in the first round proper.

During his time in the dugout, Coyne - whose father Ged also managed to club - will be assisted by Harry Bunn and Chris Shaw.

"I'm delighted. Being the manager of Hyde United's first team is an absolute honour," he said.

"[We need] to carry on with the work we set out doing as interim.

"I've had absolutely great mentors along the way. I've taken so much on board from every single one of them, and I owe them a lot."

On following in his father's footsteps, Coyne added: "It is [very emotional]. It's something which he'd be very proud of."

Discussing the appointment, Hyde United chairman Steve Hartley said: ”The board have been impressed with the response of the team and the fans in the interim period, where we have progressed through two rounds of the FA Cup, losing only one league match and keeping three clean sheets.

"We wish them every success and are sure the supporters will give their support, as always."

Coyne's first game in permanent charge will come at home to Warrington Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
