‘It’s a nice feeling’ - Daniel Moore delighted as Hebburn take top spot

Hebburn Town manager Daniel Moore has warned that there’s still a long way to go in the NPL Premier Division this season, but admits that “it’s a nice feeling” to see his side sitting top the table.
The Hornets finally made the division’s summit their own on Tuesday night after an 11th win in 12 league games, this time against Whitby Town.
Hebburn were a goal behind at half-time but equalised seconds after the restart through Gary Martin, who then put them ahead from the penalty spot 20 minutes later.
Kian Foreman’s effort 10 minutes from time ensured the three points, wrapping up a pleasing performance for the Hebburn boss.
“I thought everyone put an 8/10 performance in today,” Moore said post-match.
“I was comfortable going into half-time, and the challenge was to keep that performance up, but put the ball in the net too.
“I thought we ran all over them in the second half, and you can see the desire from the players. Take the quality goals away, the running I saw was unbelievable, and it often goes unnoticed.
“They’ve put a shift in Saturday/Tuesday after going three weeks without a game, and I’m really proud of them.”
Hebburn have been chasing down top spot for the better part of three months now, and actually missed out on the chance to claim it from Hednesford Town on Boxing Day when they fell to defeat against Stockton Town.
However, less than a month later, top spot is now theirs. And with no side near them holding games in hand, it’s theirs to keep through the remaining 15 games.
Moore warns that there’ll still be plenty of changes between now and the end of April, but that hasn’t stopped him from letting his players know how big of an achievement their current exploits have been.
“I’ve said to the players, ‘Be proud of what you’re doing’, because they’ve been brilliant up until now,” he continued.
“But, let’s be realistic. There’s still half a season left, and it’s my job to keep them grounded. There’ll still be ups and downs between now and the end of the season.
‘But to see little Hepburn at the top of the tree… it’s a nice feeling.”
