Long-serving Grimsby Borough manager leaves club

Grimsby Borough have parted company with manager Dan Barrett by mutual consent.

Barrett has been in charge for almost a decade, overseeing more than 500 games.

Leading the club's rise from the bottom of the Lincolnshire Football League to Step 4 of the football pyramid, Barrett recently joined us on the NPL Show to discuss the highs and lows of his time at the Wilderness Boys.

Achieving two league titles during his tenure, Barrett and his coaching team leave with the club 11th in the NPL East Division, seven points above the relegation zone and 19 adrift of the play-offs.

The decision to part ways comes amidst a difficult run of results which has seen the club lose their last four games in a row.

They are also winless since the turn of the year and have failed to score in their last five matches.

In an emotional tribute posted online following his departure, Barrett said: "[Having] 10 remarkable years at the helm of this great football club, and leading this team through 500 games, has been one of the greatest privileges of my footballing career.

"Together, we achieved the unthinkable and many milestones which will live long in Grimsby Borough's history.

"I am immensely proud of what we have built, from a team that was once bottom of Step 6 and taken them to a stable level at Step 4.

"I believe now is the right time for the next chapter at Grimsby Borough, and for me to embrace a new chapter in my life and finally put myself and my family ambitions before football, in which I have previously sacrificed.

“Although I am stepping aside, this football club will always hold a special place in my heart, and I can leave with pride and some unforgettable memories.”
