NPL round-up | Late drama at FC United, Warrington Town edge closer to play-offs and Whitby return to winning ways

FC United of Manchester climbed to second in the latest round of midweek fixtures in the NPL Premier Division, but they had to salvage a point in dramatic fashion at home to bottom club Workington to do so.
Workington, who hadn’t won in the league since November 8, held a two-goal lead at Broadhurst Park going into the final two minutes, thanks to goals from Josh Galloway and Dan Hopper.
However, late efforts from Matty Grivosti and Jordan Buckley - the latter coming in the fifth minute of added time - ensured the points were shared.
FC United missed out on the opportunity to climb into top spot, having picked up just the one point, but were able to leapfrog Hebburn Town into second.
Meanwhile, Workington’s winless run now stands at 10 games, but Billy Barr’s side have now drawn each of their last three games.
Elsewhere, Warrington Town returned to winning ways after three straight draws with a 2-1 win away at in-form Bamber Bridge.
Reece Daly had the Yellows ahead from the spot in the first half, but the Brig rallied back and equalised early into the second through Emerich Poilly.
However, Max Thompson’s strike 20 minutes from time wrestled control back for Warrington, who held on for a big win to climb within four points of the top five.
And in the only other game on Tuesday night, Whitby Town picked up a much-needed three points at home to Ilkeston Town to move six points clear of the relegation zone.
Matty Tymon’s 73rd-minute penalty was all that separated the two sides, as Whitby put paid to a four-game winless run, in-turn handing Ian Deakin’s side their first defeat after previously going four unbeaten.
Results - Tuesday 13 January
- Bamber Bridge 1-2 Warrington Town
- FC United of Manchester 2-2 Workington
- Whitby Town 1-0 Ilkeston Town
