Runcorn Linnets confirm managerial plans for remainder of season

Runcorn Linnets have confirmed that player-manager Jacques Welsh and player-assistant Peter Wylie will remain in their roles until the end of the season.

The pair took charge on an interim basis following Michael Ellison's resignation earlier this month.

Skipper Welsh and vice-captain Wylie had overseen a draw and two victories in their opening three games at the helm, before tasting defeat for the first time at Stafford Rangers on Saturday, losing 3-2.

A Linnets statement said the pair had "lifted the mood around the club and got the best out of the squad" since their appointment, adding that were "very keen" to continue in charge on a longer-term basis.

"In that time, we have seen a significant improvement in the form and performances of the team and a general uplift in morale in and around the club," chairman Peter Cartledge said.

"We believe this is the right move. It's one that many fans have already been asking for and we have no doubt that Jacques and Pete will have 100% backing going forward."

Both Welsh and Wylie have long associations with the club, making a combined 477 appearances in the yellow and green of Linnets.

They currently sit 12th in the NPL West Division, five points adrift of the play-offs, and are next in action at home to Vauxhall Motors on Saturday.
