‘The message is the same’ - Redcar first team coach demands relentless attitude

Redcar Athletic first team coach Lee Bullock was pleased with his side’s return to their goalscoring best after they hit Newton Aycliffe for six on Saturday.

Louie Johnson netted three and set up another in a Man of the Match display, helping the Steelman extend their unbeaten run to 14 games as they took their goal tally to 95 in just 27 games following a 6-2 triumph.

Following back-to-back 1-0 wins on the road against Silsden and Hallam, Bullock was happy to return home and see his strikers back on form.

“It was nice to get back on the goal trail," Bullock said post-match.

"We’ve had a couple of hard-fought victories, but it was good today to see the lads enjoying themselves and sticking the ball in the back of the net.

“When you’re playing on the front foot, you can often be caught out on the other end, and we did get punished by a young, energetic team.

“But credit to the lads on the front foot, though. It looked like they were going to score at will every time they went forward, and it was quite comfortable in the end.”

For many, it seems only a matter of time before the Steelmen are crowned champions of the NPL East Division.

Carl Jarrett’s side have won 22 of their 27 league games and made light work of plenty of their opposition, despite it being their debut season at Step 4.

However, with Matlock Town still lurking in the rear-view mirror, 10 points behind and on a five-game winning run themselves, promotion is not a foregone conclusion.

Bullock knows that his side mustn’t lose focus in their pursuit of back-to-back promotions, revealing that Carl Jarrett’s message of “earning wins” has remained the same throughout the campaign.

“We said from day one, go out and do your jobs, and when we’re at it, we’re more than capable of winning games,” Bullock continued.

“The message is the same: go out there and earn the right to win, and at the moment, they’re doing it week in, week out, so fair play to them.

“There are tough games coming up, though, and we’re going to have to dig deep, which we will. We’ll enjoy the challenge.”
