'The team I call home' - Experienced defender completes Belper Town return
Belper Town have announced the signing of experienced defender Danny South from NPL East Division side Hallam.
South returns to familiar surroundings, having made his Belper debut in 2018 and gone on to represent the club more than 170 times over two previous spells.
He made the move to Hallam ahead of the 2024/25 season and was immediately handed the captain's armband.
He has been a mainstay of the side ever since, helping the club secure promotion to Step 4 from the NCEL Premier Division.
But following a seven-day notice of approach which was waived by Hallam after discussions with the player, South has opted to return to the Raygar Stadium, joining a Belper side currently occupying the final play-off spot in the NPL Midlands Division.
"It’s a pleasure to sign back for the team I call my home," South said.
"I can’t wait to get back involved with the lads. I’m back to hopefully contribute and get this team promoted."
On his newest arrival, Nailers boss Lee Attenborough said: "As we know, Danny left the club around this time a couple of seasons ago to pursue an opportunity that was financially better for him and his family.
"Naturally, that decision was disappointing for the management, the club and the fans, and it left us wondering what might have been by the end of that season.

"However, time has moved on. As we do with many former players, Matt and I have kept track of Danny’s progress, and he has stayed in touch with us over the past two years. He has also attended a number of Belper games during that time.
"With the transfer deadline approaching on Thursday, and Jack Broadhead currently struggling with a back injury, we are short of cover in central defence without having to move Louis Keenan out of position. Danny gives us that option, while also offering versatility, having played all season as a number nine for Hallam.
"Given our recent struggles in front of goal, particularly at home, we feel this addition provides something different in attack - a genuine plan B - as well as a strong physical presence in both boxes.
"Finally, with just eight games remaining, we find ourselves in a tight battle for the final play-off places.
"I believe the group would benefit from a lift, along with added character and leadership in the dressing room - qualities Danny has always brought in abundance.
"So, while this signing may come as a surprise to some, time is a great healer, and I am confident Danny will have a very positive impact as we approach a crucial stage of the season."
