Vauxhall Motors appoint Chris Herbert as new manager

Vauxhall Motors have confirmed the appointment of Chris Herbert as their new manager.

The 48-year-old joins the Motormen from 1874 Northwich, filling the vacant role left behind by Danny Holmes.

Herbert led the '74 back to the Northern Premier League last season, beating local rivals Northwich Victoria 1-0 in the Midland League play-off final.

Prior to his time at 1874 Northwich, he managed at Welsh sides Conwy Borough and Cefn Druids, as well as Runcorn Town, alongside a spell as assistant manager at Chester.

Herbert has also previously worked as a scout for Salford City and Nottingham Forest.

Joining him in the dugout at the Premier Jet Stadium for the upcoming 2026/27 season is head coach Mark Reed, goalkeeper coach Mark Corbett, and Stu Butler, who becomes the club's new chief scout and analyst.

On the appointment of Herbert as their new boss, a Vauxhall Motors statement read: "Chris’ experience, leadership qualities, and footballing philosophy align strongly with the club’s long-term ambitions.

"The appointment has been completed well in advance of the start of preseason preparations, ensuring stability and continuity across all football operations. This timing allows the manager and coaching staff to work closely with the club’s football department on squad planning, recruitment, and preparation for the upcoming campaign.

“We are delighted for Chris to join us at the Premier Jet Stadium and can’t wait for the future.”
