Warrington Town unveil triple signing

Warrington Town's summer rebuild continues, with their three latest signings confirmed on Saturday afternoon.

Experienced midfielder David Morgan has joined the club following his departure from National League North side Southport, while goalkeeper Liam Isherwood and defender Matty Waters have also completed moves to the Yellows.

The signings were confirmed at the club's Summer Social event in Warrington Town Centre, during which time they also unveiled a striking new away kit for the forthcoming season.

Morgan, who turned 31 on Friday, adds vast experience to Paul Carden’s squad, having made 189 appearances for Southport across two spells.

He featured 35 times in the National League North last season and ended the campaign as the club’s caretaker manager following the departure of Jim Bentley.

Warrington Town say Morgan will form a "key part" of their team in the Northern Premier League next season as the club seeks an immediate return to the National League North.

Earlier in his career, the midfielder secured a move to AFC Flyde for a five-figure transfer fee.

Morgan has featured for a number of clubs during his time in the game, including in the Football League with Accrington Stanley.

Another with experience of Accrington is the Yellows' new goalkeeper Isherwood, who made five appearances in League One before leaving Stanley following the expiration of his contract earlier this summer.

He becomes the club's new first-choice goalkeeper following the recent departure of Dan Atherton, who has since joined Northern Premier League rivals FC United of Manchester for a fee believed to be in the region of £7,500.

Isherwood, 22, spent time on loan last season at Clitheroe, and has experienced the Northern Premier League before on loan at Stalybridge Celtic and Marine.

Completing the trio of new signings, defender Waters boasts National League and National League North experience with Chester, Curzon Ashton and Buxton.

He has spent much of the past two seasons with Marine, having initially joined them on loan from Buxton.

The left-back made 20 appearances in the National League North last season and joins fellow summer signings Scott Butler and James Melhado as defensive options heading into the new season.

The Yellows will begin their pre-season schedule with a home game against National League side Altrincham on Saturday 12 July.
