Worksop Town promoted to National League North

Worksop Town have secured promotion to the National League North after Jordan Burrow's double helped them to a 2-1 win against Guiseley in the Northern Premier League play-off final.

In front of more than 2,000 supporters at Sandy Lane, the Tigers confirmed their return to the league above, ending an 18-year absence from the National League North.

Headed goals from Burrow either side of half-time proved decisive for Craig Parry's side, who hung on to secure the win after Guiseley had pulled one back 15 minutes from time through Will Longbottom.

Despite only receiving a play-off reprieve less than 48 hours before the final after Stockton Town were disqualified for fielding an ineligible player during their play-off semi-final clash, Guiseley gave a good account of themselves away from home but were unable to find a late equaliser.

For Worksop boss Parry - who first took charge in April 2020 and celebrated his 200th game at the helm earlier this season - victory was the culmination of several seasons of hard work and belief.

Speaking post-match, he said: "I'm full of emotion, what an achievement. I'm really proud of everyone connected with the club.

"We made a promise when we came in to take this club back to where it belongs, and that's national level.

"It's a special moment to do it with this lot. They're unbelievable human beings, and I'm so proud that we've got over the line today to allow them to continue on their journey.

"On an occasion like this, it's always going to be a battle. I'd like to congratulate Guiseley: they were magnificent today and have had an unbelievable season.

"Both sets of players left everything out on the pitch, and we've been able to get over the line."

Promotion means Worksop will progress to the league above alongside title-winners Macclesfield, who topped the division with a record-breaking 109 points
