Black bags his long term target

Signed over the weekend from Frickley Athletic, Black is expecting the 24-year-old former Garforth, Hyde United and Goole hot-shot to spearhead his side's push for promotion in EVO-STIK NPL First Division North after their fourth-placed finish to the last campaign.

Martin-Wyatt has been on Black's radar for some time and signed on at The 4G Voice & Data Stadium on Saturday as midfielder Jason Yates left the Ingfielders for a fresh challenge.

Black, pictured, told the club's fans: “I’ve been aware of Curtley for some time and he really impressed me when when he played against us last season. He is a strong lad and holds the ball up well.

"I tried to sign him not long after that game but he followed his former Goole manager Lee Morris to Frickley Athletic where he scored a hat-trick on his debut.

“I am delighted to finally get him and we cannot wait to get started, I expect big things from him, as he does himself, I believe he will be a player the Backslappers take to very quickly."

Thanking Yates for his services, he added: "He has been fantastic for us since he signed with, with eight goals in 31 games from midfield – including a brace in the play-off semi-final – we will miss him but we wish him well. We will move forward and there will be lads chomping at the bit to take his place”.

Martin-Wyatt said: “When the club approached me last year I spoke to Grant but I had already given my word to sign elsewhere. He was really understanding and told me if things didn’t work he would be keen to get me on board which I appreciated.

“I scored a last minute winner for Goole at Ingfield last season which I’m sure the Town fans won’t appreciate me reminding them of but I remember the atmosphere on the day and loved it. The Backslappers were giving me a bit of stick but I think I had one of my best game of the season. I remember thinking that day that one day I wouldn’t mind Ingfield being my home ground, and now it is."

The striker, who has set himself a personal target of at least 20 goals, is confident he has the tools to impress his new fans.

He added: "Seeing the spirit the side showed last season and just missing out on promotion meant that it was a no brainer for me. The Backslappers can expect 110 per cent from me each game. They can expect to see a player who holds the ball up and brings teammates into play. With the right service they can expect to see the ball flying into the back of the net as I am a goalscorer”.
