Buxton forward makes Guiseley move

Guiseley have announced the signing of forward Jake Wright from National League North side Buxton.

The 27-year-old becomes the club's second summer signing, following in the footsteps of Jordan Thewlis whose return to Nethermoor for a second spell was confirmed on Sunday.

Wright has plenty of National League and National League North experience and has previously spent time with York City, Harrogate Town and Gateshead.

He also enjoyed a four-season spell with Boston United, scoring 27 goals in 85 games for the Pilgrims.

Formerly a Sheffield United academy scholar, he turned professional for three years and played one first team game for the Blades.

"I am looking forward to getting started," he said.

"I like to play down the middle and I will give 110%. We don’t want to be in this league, we need to crack on and get promotion.

“We need to build a good base in pre-season, and although results are not everything in pre-season games, we need to get some wins to build momentum.”

Wright's announcement comes days after the club announced the return of attacker Thewlis, who first departed the Lions in January 2022 to join Spennymoor Town for an undisclosed fee.

He subsequently made the move to Alfreton Town in November of the same year and scored seven times in 24 appearances before hitting new heights during the 2023/24 campaign - his 25 goals in all competitions firing Alfreton to a National League North play-off berth and a place in the second round of the FA Cup.

“I feel that I have a lot of experience and had a good season last season, and I would like another promotion on my CV," the Scunthorpe United academy graduate said following the move.

"I am looking forward to pre-season training, it is always more exciting when it is with a new club.”
