Cunningham commits to Colne

By David Watters

Steve Cunningham has signed a new contract to keep him at EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Colne FC until 2018.

Cunningham is pictured penning a new two year deal for Reds chairman James Webster before guiding his side to a 1-0 home win over Scarborough Athletic in EVO-STIK NPL First Division North on Saturday.

Webster, who took the club into the EVO-STIK NPL this season as North West Counties Football League champions, took over at Holt House in November 2013 after Nigel Coates stood down after a decade at the helm. After guiding the club to a fourth placed finish in his first season in charge, Cunningham secured promotion on the last day of last season in dramatic style and has seen his mid-table side take the step-up in their stride.

A club spokesman said: "Chairman James Webster acted quickly to keep last season's title winning manager at Holt House after interest in the Reds manager increased from rival clubs. Steve was delighted to commit his future to the club."
