Worksop Town bring in Buxton forward

Worksop Town have strengthened their forward line with the arrival of Buxton striker Jordan Burrow.

The 31-year-old is a product of Chesterfield’s academy, signing his first professional deal in May 2011.

After a temporary loan switch to Boston United, Burrow was released by the Spireites and joined Morecambe in League Two, making over 50 appearances for the Shrimps over an 18-month period.

He rejected a new deal at the end of the 2012/13 campaign and moved up a division to join Stevenage, where he netted on his debut in a 2-0 victory in the League Cup against Ipswich Town.

Lincoln City was the forward’s next destination before he made the switch to FC Halifax Town. It was with the Shayman that he lifted the FA Trophy, completing the full 90 minutes in their triumph over Grimsby Town along with current Tigers’ captain Hamza Bencherif.

A former England ‘C’ international, he had goalscoring stints with Gateshead and York City before returning permanently to Boston, which is where he linked up with Craig Elliott, who brought the forward to the Bucks.

“I’m really excited to be here. It’s a club that’s going in the right direction," he said.

"It got a great promotion last year and they are doing well this year, so everything is gearing up to go in a positive direction and I hope that I can contribute to that.

“I know and have played with quite a lot of the lads already: Sam Wedgbury, Hamza [Bencherif], Paul Green, Terry Hawkridge, Jay Rollins, and even Ben [Tomlinson] at Lincoln, so it’s a familiar dressing room for me and it shouldn’t take me too long to integrate myself into it."

Burrow will add firepower to a forward line which already includes one of the division's top strikers in Liam Hughes.

During Hughes' first season with the Tigers in 2022/23, a tally of 42 goals in 45 appearances helped steer them to the Pitching In NPL East Division title.

Discussing their options in the final third, Burrow added: “Hughesy’s [Liam Hughes] record has been tremendous, and I am familiar with Jim [James Hanson] from when he came on loan to Boston, so I am in really good company.

“The competition for places should bring out the best in us all to keep pushing ourselves.

"People may think there’s rivalry when it comes to it but there isn’t. You’re encouraging each other, and you want the best for them as well."
