Farsley visited by long-distance fans

Father and daughter travel from Torquay.

Farsley AFC were visited by two long-distance supporters for Saturday’s home match with Clitheroe.

Becka Quantick and her father Malcolm made the 600-mile-round-trip from Torquay to watch AFC beat Clitheroe 2-0 at Throstle Nest.

The pair have taken a keen interest in the club since Torquay United and Farsley Celtic played against each other in the Blue Square Premier three years ago.

From there, Becka has kept up-to-date on the club’s progress and thanked the club’s players, volunteers and supporters for their kindness during their stay in West Leeds.

“I’ve being following the team on the website and wanted to come up for a while,” Becka said.

“I started taking an interest in the club when Torquay went down to the Conference and Farsley went up into the Conference.

“We were fascinated by the name because it was so unusual.”
She added: “We really enjoyed the day.

“From the time we walked through the gate, we were made really welcome.

“People came up to us and were talking to us and we were made to feel really at home.”

Normally, Becka and Malcolm are seen watching Torquay home and away, but when the Gulls’ game was moved to Friday, an opportunity arose for a long-awaited visit to the Nest.

He said: “We only decided to go ten days beforehand because we got a free week because of Torquay playing on the Friday night.

“It was really on the spur of the moment.

He added: “We are hoping to come up again before the end of the season.”

Chairman John Palmer added: “At Farsley we pride ourselves on good hospitality and I hope Becka and her father Malcolm enjoyed their day and I hope to see them again in the near future.”
