Grimes signs Grantham deal

Striker pens contract with Lincolnshire club

Grantham Town striker Paul Grimes has signed a contract for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division 1 South club.

Grimes, who only joined Grantham in the summer put pen to paper after the Doodson League Cup 1st round tie at Quorn on Tuesday night.

Gingerbreads Chairman Steve Boam commented that the club had moved to secure an asset it had been chasing for some while.

“I have been trying to get Paul at Grantham since Christmas.” Mr Boam said. “We got him to come for pre-season and now he is establishing himself in the side, he has quickly shown why we wanted him.

"Having got him, we aren’t going to lose him easily! We have been in negotiations for a while and are pleased to have got him on a contract.”

The negotiations were conducted against a background of approaches from a number of other clubs keen to attract the services of the former Brigg Town and Retford United striker.

There has been a lot of interest in Paul Grimes.” Said Gingerbreads joint manager Wayne Hallcro. “The club have received several 7 day enquiries and we could have lost him to another club.

"He is traveling a long was and it has taken a little while for him to fully settle, he signed with Scott Hellewell who decided not to stay, so was traveling on his own. Now he is coming with the Lincoln lads it is a lot easier.”

Grimes missed the early part of the season due to being on honeymoon, but since he made his league debut has scored two goals to add to the one he got in pre-season in the Lincolnshire Senior Shield.

“Everyone who watched can see he is more than good enough to play at this level.” Hallcro added. “We haven’t seen the best of him yet. Once he gets a run of games under his belt, we will see just how good he is.

"He is a neat and tidy player who has clearly played at a higher level. He is quality in everything he does and is the sort of player who is always going to be one of the first names on the teamsheet.”
