Michael Carberry back in familiar surroundings

Bootle have announced the return of versatile defender Michael Carberry - little over 18 months since he left to join Southport.

Carberry linked up with the Sandgrounders in May 2022 after impressing on dual-registration, having previously spent three years with the Bucks.

He enjoyed a season with the National League North side before returning to the familiar surroundings of the Northern Premier League last summer, agreeing terms with Marine.

A total of 18 appearances followed for the Mariners, with Carberry scoring once during that time.

Back at the Berry Street Garage Stadium, the 25-year-old could make his second Bootle debut when they visit Newcastle Town on Saturday.

Mick McGraa's side currently sit on the fringes of the Pitching In NPL West Division play-offs after a run of just one defeat in their last seven league games. A win on Saturday could see them secure a top-five spot before Christmas.
