Pitmen Face Busy Week

Hednesford Town update

A busy week faces Hednesford Town both on and off the pitch as the first team begin their pre-season friendlies in earnest on Tuesday night with an away fixture against former Zamaretto League side Halesowen Town followed by a match versus AFC Wulfrunians on Wednesday night.

Two matches in quick succession should give Rob Smith and Larry Chambers the opportunity to run the rule over numerous players and begin to get a settled side ready for the big kick off in mid-August.

A hectic day awaits The Pitmen on Saturday 16th July when Club Mascot Pitman Pete will make an appearance at the Cannock Carnival at lunchtime, before dashing over to the Colliery Ground where Midland Alliance side Heath Hayes welcome their near neighbours for a 3pm kick off. The fixture should be another interesting run-out for a squad which includes new signing Mark Danks and the returning Elliott Durrell from a long injury lay-off.

All fans are encouraged to attend the first Supporters Association fundraising night on Saturday evening when a horse racing night will be held from 7.30pm to raise funds for the new Club Shop due to be constructed in the next few months. Admission is £4 for non-members £3 for SA members and basket meals will be available.

The long wait for the Evo-Stik Premier’s fixture publication will finally come to an end on Thursday of this week when The Pitmen’s loyal supporters will find out when they will face arch-rivals Stafford Rangers and Chasetown among other big games set to come to Keys Park in the coming months.

The FA Cup and FA Trophy draws were also made this week with The Pitmen being paired away to Redditc h in the First Qualifying Round of the most famous Cup competition in the World and Rob Smith’s side will face either Bedworth Town or Market Drayton Town in the Trophy, a competition Hednesford famously won at Villa Park in 2004.

Keys Park will host its first home friendly of pre-season when Hednesford welcome Zamaretto League side Stourbridge on Tuesday 19th July however the planned fixture against Tamworth on Saturday 23rd July has been cancelled.
