Test Of Character Ahead For Roms

Romulus update.

Romulus boss Richard Evans said that this weeks league double header would be a test of character for his side as they look to shrug off a lacklustre start to their Evostik NPL season.

The Roms host league leaders New Mills this Saturday, who are unbeaten so far after promotion from the North West Counties League last season. Evans then takes his side to Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday evening, a week after losing to 'Grove 5-3 after extra time in the Evostik League Cup.

"We couldn't have two harder games in this league." said Evans "It will be a real test of character for us after the run we've had lately- New Mills are flying and Kidsgrove are always very strong."

Romulus had lead 2-0 against their Staffordshire rivals on Monday before they conceded 3 goals- Dean Baker bagged a late equaliser but the Roms conceded two goals in extra-time.

"We had mixed feelings after the game, there were some bad things, but also plenty of positives.

"The first half was very good, but it just turned into one of those games."

The Roms had gone into the tie on the back of a morale boosting 3-1 win over Norton United in the FA Cup last weekend- goals from Ashley Jackson, Marcus Brown and Marvin Johnson setting up a 'home' tie with Bridgnorth Town in the First Qualifying Round.

Again, the tie will be played at Chasetown, because 3G pitches aren't permitted in the FA Cup. The Scholars are at home on the Saturday, so Romulus' tie will take place on Sunday 18th September, KO 2pm.
