Vets through to national finals

Basford United Vets will be flying the flag for the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League at this summer's Umbro Masters.

The EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club's over 40s side, already champions of the East Midlands Veterans Premier League, booked their berth in the final at Lilleshall on Sunday June 11 with a 4-3 penalty shoot out win over Manor Vets after drawing 1-1.

To reach the final, the veterans from Greenwich Avenue won a regional play-off after coming through a six team group stage featuring six clubs from Manchester, Liverpool, Huddersfield and Derbyshire.

* Basford United manager Martin Carruthers, pictured, is looking to book a late friendly fixture against Step 3 opposition a week before the new season kicks off on Saturday 5 August. After the fixture the club originally booked was cancelled, officials say Greenwich Avenue is available to host a game.

Potential opponents should contact Basford by email at info@basfordunitedfc.co.uk.
