Wednesday's South Division review

By David Watters

Kidsgrove Athletic and Gresley FC met at the Novus Stadium on Wednesday night with both looking for their first win of the 2017-18 Evo-Stik League South season, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And a 2-2 draw means that they are still searching for that elusive three-point haul.

It was goalless and pretty scrappy in the opening 45 minutes before the breakthrough finally arrived on the hour-mark, the Moatmen drawing first blood when a Jason Law free-kick was deflected past Grove keeper Dave Parton.

Twenty minutes from time and the home side were back on level terms when Dan Cocks was brought down in the box before the usually reliable Anthony Malbon equalised from the penalty spot.

And nine minutes later, Grove took the lead when Rhys Thompson and Cocks exchange passes and the latter found Tom France who fired home. But just as Kidsgrove looked like moving off the one-point mark in the table, Gresley levelled in the 89th minute when Louis Danquah headed in from the corner.
