Awards for leaders and challengers!

By David Watters

Blyth Spartans are looking forward to collecting successive EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Club of the Month awards as one of February's trio of winning clubs alongside Lancaster City and Witton Albion.

After being unveiled in January as one of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's first performance kings of 2017, the league leaders were named again on Friday as the top flight's latest performance kings.

Sponsored once again this season by title sponsors EVO-STIK and parent company Bostik UK, the honours are handed out every month to recognise and reward the top performers in league and cup competitions.

Like the Dolly Blues and the Wittoners, Spartans will be presented with two bottles of spirits and inscribed certificates as permanent mementos of their success by representatives of the league and sponsors before kick-off at an upcoming home game in March.

To win for a second time, Alun Armstrong's men carried over their form to take 15 points from a possible 18 in February, scoring 17 goals in five wins and a single reverse at North East rivals Spennymoor Town in their final outing of the month on Tuesday night.

Despite being involved in their respective title races for months, the latest EVO-STIK NPL First Division North and South winners are both looking forward to being presented with their first accolades of the campaign.

In EVO-STIK NPL First Division South, second-placed Witton Albion and manager Carl Macauley are just six points off the top with a game in hand going into the weekend thanks to their award-winning record in February of five wins and two draws, the results including a 3-2 win at leaders Shaw Lane AFC as they collected 17 points from 21 on offer.

Lancaster City manager Phil Brown and his Dolly Blues side are currently nine points clear at the top of the EVO-STIK NPL First Division North table and their division's performance kings after romping to five straight wins in February. Like Witton, they also beat one of their biggest challengers by kicking off the month with a 3-2 win over second-placed Farsley Celtic in their first outing.
