Special guest at charity fundraiser

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Ossett Town are looking forward to welcoming a very special guest to the end of season charity match they are hosting in memory of Leeds United fan Michael Kew.

Taking place on Sunday 14 May for the superfan who passed away in April 2015 from bladder cancer, the fundraising fixture and family fun day will see two sides of former top players and celebrities led out by five-year-old Bradley Lowery who is battling childhood cancer.

The Sunderland fan, who is raising money for specialist and progressive treatment that is currently unavailable in this country, won the hearts of the nation earlier this season as a mascot at a Black Cats fixture against Everton who later made a £200,000 donation to his fund.

Darren Powell, who used to follow the Whites with his friend Michael to away games, is organising the event after raising £3,000 last season at another star-studded match at Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium. He's set a target of raising £5,000 this time out to be spilt between the fund for the youngster and Macmillan Cancer Care.

Officials at EVO-STIK NPL First Division North Ossett Town say they feel "honoured" to be involved and are looking forward to playing host to a number of celebrities on the day including boxer Andy Townend, Danny Mac from Hollyoaks and Emmerdale stars Adam Thomas, Anthony Quinlan and James Hooton. Ex-pros set to turn out include former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan and Manchester City’s Lee Crooks.

As well as an auction and raffle, they'll also be plenty of entertainment for kids with Star Wars Stormtroopers and characters from Disney's Frozen helping to get them involved at the 4G Voice & Data Stadium.

Ossett Town chairman James Rogers said: “We were aware of the game last year, myself and other members of the committee here are big Leeds United fans too, and when we were asked if we were available to host the game we were very keen.

“Macmillan is a charity close to many people’s hearts and being able to play a part in a fundraising opportunity is something we’re keen to do. I’m delighted that young Bradley Lowery will be here too. He has had a lot of media coverage in recent times and his is a story that has touched the hearts of many."

He added: “The club's committee, members and I will be doing everything we can on the day to make it a memorable one for everyone involved."
